Planning the Discharge from Paediatric Intensive Care of a Child with Complex Care Needs

Many children admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care for management of serious illness recover quickly. This is reflected in a mean length stay <5 days many tertiary level critical care units. A small proportion infants and require prolonged paediatric intensive stay, due severity their illness, complexity medical nursing required, presence underlying co-morbidity. cohort patients have particular needs when being discharged ward care, onwards home. paper reviews complex that may first weeks following discharge from care. Supported by available published literature, authors outline key relevant themes, make recommendations on how transition be facilitated.
